Now for something glam!

My friend Lisa is a HUGE Adam Lambert fan. Which totally cracks me up. When my daughter saw this, she said "THAT is for Miss Lisa? Wow! That doesn't seem like her at all!" Which just goes to show that my nature loving, straightforward, sensible, station wagon driving friend has a dark side! lol

She went to the recent AI concert and snapped these photos and they totally inspired me! I don't get to play with concert pics, so I totally jumped on this and made her a mini album out of altered CDs and lots of bling! It was so much fun to make and it went together so fast! (Of course, I love any excuse to throw alcohol inks on things and the glimmer mist on mulberry shines soo cool...love my black gold!)

A Year of Cards

Vamp ATC

Kristy posted an ATC challenge with a Vamp theme. How fun!

I used this corset stamp I have had forever and again hadn't used for inspiration. And I thought the Madonna quote was perfect! Since I had my alcohol inks out, I had to play with them to make the background!

Ad Challenge inspired card

Tracey posted this ad as a challenge this weekend. You had to use it as inspiration for a card, page, etc.

I LOVE this ad!!!



Here's what I came up with using an awesome stamp I have had sitting here for eons (angel) and a background of Bright Orange, Red Pepper and Yellow alkie inks, then I add pearl alkie ink in the middle for the glow. The flourishes are a Heidi Swapp stamp and then I did the oval over the angel with orange peel stickles.

I LOVE it, this is one of my favouritest things I have done in awhile!

Some projects of late

Just a quick post with some things I found time to work on this month (March was insanely busy! Scrapping tended to go by the wayside!)

It's for the birds! Well, no, maybe not.....

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our county parks system. They do THE BEST job offering nature and arts classes. Saturday I took a gourd birdhouse class. I have been wanting to play with these for awhile, but just didn't know if I had to do anything special to them and so forth.

Now, I know! They are sooo easy to work with!

Most people there carved and stained them or they painted them. I had something else in mind. Once I got the specifics on what to do, I did my carving (doodles of course) and brought it home to turn it into a piece of altered art!

Here's what I did.....

1.Covered it with alcohol inks (stream, eggplant and wild plum)
2. Dripped gold mixative from the stem.
3. Leafed the stem and flourishes with a Krylon gold leafing pen.
4. Added my bazzill bling and prima flowers and a cute copper brad
5. Sprayed it with Copper Glimmer Mist because I really wanted it to shine and I love the effect it gave...it dripped and gave an even more mottled effect, but it was a sparkly one!
6. Added magenta stickles around the hole and flourishes and made a necklace around the top of the gourd with copper and cinnamon stickles.

I LOVE how this turned out!

So much for the birdies, this house is MINE!

Trash to Treasure Scrapping

This is one of the classes I am 'teaching' this weekend at our ScrapNmoms birthday party (if you aren't a member, get over there! We are having a BLAST!) We are doing challenges, games, classes, chatting and giving away prizes. Just go to www.cafemom.com and look for ScrapNMoms.

Anyway, so the point of this class was to just take stuff laying around the house and turn it into something cool!

I got a cuttlebug for Christmas and borrowing an idea from a lady from All Things Tim, I used it with a pop can that I punched flowers from. Then, I alcohol inked them and ran them through my cuttlebug using an embossing folder! They are SO fun!


I added rhinestones to the center of a couple and they made it onto my party hat for the ScrapNMoms make a party hat challenge. That is also dyed drywall tape on the hat. LOVE drywall tape, it's like $3 for 50 yards!


Then, another thing I was going to show was soot stamping. This will be the class challenge to do a soot stamped card. It is actually pretty darn easy and I didn't do step by step instruction photographically (did that make sense? Is it a word? Oh well, works for me)

To soot stamp, you need:
a candle
glossy card stock
versamark
a stamp
a heat gun
sealer (I use hairspray)

1. Light your candle
2. Now hold your glossy cardstock over it (you might have to get close to the flame)until it gets nice and sooty.
3. Ink up your stamp with versamark (this will protect it and keep it clean) and stamp in the soot
4. Heat set and then seal.

Done. How cool is that?!

This is one I did, using a Tim ATC stamp (and I copied one of his new stamps from online, I'm sure it's copyright infringement or something, but I couldn't wait, I have it preordered, I LOVE it and it is just for me so I'm not making anything off using this puppy). Also, the little squares were again punched from the pop can and inked and embossed. Alcohol ink background, some glimmer mist and a bit of inked doily and good to go!


I was chatting with my friend Tracey Wilson and 'taught' her how to do this. This is her creation, this lady is soooo talented!

Found It!

Things are a little tight (okay, they are super tight) this Christmas so I have been trying to make lots of gifts for everyone.

The girls are a challenge though as they are at the age where they want American Girls, Wiis and all kinds of material things and rarely are they things I can knock off with ease. Then, I came across the Found It game.....perfect since we spend hours in the car running from one Homeschool Activity to the next some days and we also live in the middle of nowhere and my average drive ANYWHERE (we do seem centrally located to Akron, Cleveland, my dad's in Ashland county and my sister up in Norwalk) is 40 mnutes.

So, this is my take.....it cost me some supplies from my stash and around $1 worth of dried rice and then I wandered around the house and found little odds and ends. A great present for a buck?! What more can you ask for?!

If you don't know how this game works, you give the kids a list and it is like a little scavenger hunt. They have to shake the box and find all the objects on the list (Um, lesson learned make a list of the objects BEFORE you seal it up...duh!). This is seriously an addicting little toy, I had fun (and so did the ladies at crop night) shaking it up seeing what came up.

Materials:
Tin (other options might be a mason jar or 1 litre pop bottle.....I had a tin leftover from Maya Road chipboard and it is perfect!)

Alcohol inks to cover tin

Ribbon and patterned paper and stickers and flowers and buttons and whatever to decorate

Rice (Birdseed or perler beads could be used as well)

Liquid Glass

Objects for inside....you have any of those cutesy buttons lying around you don't know where you got them? They are perfect for this! I found a mitten, butterfly, ladybug, hat, shoe, tree, cat and all kinds of other things. A button with an anchor, a worry doll, a dime, a penny, an earring, a shell, a pinecone, a rhinestone star and moon, a Spiderman symbol from a ring Livy had, old charms (Pooh, Tiger, Cinderella).

Instructions:
~Mix up your objects with the rice and dump them in....be sure to leave just enough room for them to move.
~SEAL the edges with liquid glass so no rice escapes and it cannot be opened.
~Decorate

Joy to the World

So, since the wreath can't make it to my mom (mom if you see this, back away from the blog NOW) I had to come up with something else.

Started playing with some acrylic blocks I had and this is what I came up with:



The background is alkie inks (slate, stream and silver mixative). Then I inked some chipboard letters, covered it with Crystal stickles and threw on some bling and some stickers I had sitting here (yes, I used stickers, but they are pretty stickers! lol)

Baby it's cold outside!

Omgosh, when did WINTER get here? It's 27 outside right now! Actually, it IS supposed to warm up to 50 today and the trees are finally looking gorgeous here on the fringes of Amish country. Shoudl be a great night for Trick or Treating.

Girls have Japanese this morning at co op (they are really loving this, at first Trin was NOT happy about having to take it though), I NEED to do laundry when I get home, then prep for my co op classes tomorrow (I teach a creative writing/book of me class along with a history class), then the aforementioned T or T'ing so not much time to work on things today.

But, since I want to think of warm, I'll share a one of my fave cards with you that uses our Coffee Shop set....I made this for a friend who is a Starbucks junkie.



Mmmmm....coffee sounds good right now, might have to leave a few minutes early to grab a pumpkin spice cappacino (my fave thing about fall!)
